Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo's President, has recently described how the gaming company has no plans to increase the price of a Nintendo Switch, at least for now.

This is to avoid pricing people out, and the announcement came in the wake of news that Nintendo Switch sales have decreased over 20% in the past few months due to the global chip shortage.

The global chip shortage contributed to a 29% plummet in profits over the course of this past financial year.

Nintendo Switch Price

According to The Gamer, Furukawa said that they are not considering increasing the price of the Nintendo Switch at this point for two specific reasons.

First, they want to avoid pricing people out, as they want to offer unique entertainment to a wide range of customers.

Second, they do not want to fall behind their competition, and they want to think about pricing in terms of the value of the fun that they offer.

Nintendo will continue to sell three models: the standard one, the Nintendo Switch Lite with reduced size, features and price, and the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

According to Nikkei, Furukawa confirmed that the company will work out the best strategy as they go along. They are "doing their best to procure high quality products at a reasonable price with an eye toward the future."

The executive added that for now, their Nintendo Switch OLED model will continue to be less profitable than their other models.

Costs have increased for shipping not only by air but also by sea, and they are thinking about what they can do.

When it comes to sales targets, he remained reserved, noting that the company will try to keep up sales at the same place. Having hit software also gives a boost to the hardware.

Furukawa added that they have a lineup of new games that will allow them to take a crack at meeting their sales forecast, including  "Splatoon 3" coming out in September, and "Pokemon Scarlet and Violet" in November.

As for production shortages, he pointed out that they are on track for improvement from the latter half of this summer, but noted how "beyond that, a lot of things are uncertain."

Upcoming Games for Nintendo Switch

Aside from "Splatoon 3" and "Pokemon Scarlet and Violet," there are a series of games that are scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch for 2022.

According to GamesRadar, "Nier: Automata The End of Yorha Edition" is set for release in Oct. 6. The game follows the story of androids 2B, 9S, and A2, that you set out to take back Earth when machines from outer space attack.

"No Man's Sky" is set for release on Oct. 7. Since it launched in 2016, the video game has undergone a lot of changes, with multiple major expansions arriving for free to add story content, massive new gameplay mechanics like multiplayer, building, and more.

"Marvel's Midnight Suns" is also scheduled for release on Oct. 7. The video game has a roaster of 12 superheroes, and you will be tasked to take down Lilith, the Mother of Demons.
