A new "Mass Effect 3" mod has popped up, bringing a functionality that so many players (for some reason) wanted: let Shepard romance Joker, the Normandy's pilot.

According to PC Gamer, the mod called The Hatboy Project is now available for download on Nexus and will give Joker and Shepard a full romance option. The mod's description claims that it "creates an all-new romantic narrative for the player to explore," complete with new voice lines, custom-written romantic style conversations, and even the option to just flirt or full-on commit to each other.

Here is a trailer video for the new "Mass Effect 3" mod, and it looks pretty convincing:

The modder claims they managed to add almost 350 new lines of dialogue. And safe to say, they sound pretty natural within the context of the game as you see in the video above. Nothing seems to be re-dubbed by a different actor. It's all Seth Green's and Jennifer Hale's unmistakable voices playing out, which of course helps with the immersion and makes you think this isn't just another mod.

For now, though The Hatboy Project is only available for the original 2012 version of ME3. But the modder did say that it is coming to the Legendary Edition version as well. The mod is currently in beta for the OG ME3 right now, so it might take some time before ME3 LE gets a crack at this one.

However, those who are wanting to pursue a gay relationship between BroShep and Joker shouldn't hold their breath. In the mod's official description, the modderssay that making a BroShep version would be very demanding, as FemShep was already quite hard to make. As such, the modder said they wouldn't commit to making that version anytime soon. Sorry, folks: this is a FemShep only romance for now.

This new addition to the veritable roster of "Mass Effect 3" mods is just one of numerous romance add-ons that you can check out. If you were bummed out that Joker and Shepard's "flirtation" scene at the bar was too much of a tease, then this is the mod for you.

The Best 'Mass Effect 3' Mods To Check Out

Now that you know of The Hatboy Project mod for ME3, maybe you can check out a few other mods that improve the game in a lot of (very major) ways. Here are a few to start you with. But disclaimer: we're only including mods compatible with the Legendary Edition of the game, as this is the newest one out there.

  • ALOT of Textures: The textures were already far more improved in the Legendary Edition, but they can always be better; sharper. ALOT does just that by replacing just about every single piece of texture work not just in "Mass Effect 3," but across all 3 games. This mod was so good that even BioWare took notes and considered it an inspiration while making ME LE.
  • Expanded Galaxy Mod: This was perhaps one of the best "Mass Effect 3" mods of all time, and for good reason. EGM takes the Reaper War and blows it up into what really feels and looks like a galaxy-wide conflict. It does so many things that will be too much to describe in one paragraph. But all in all, it brings the immersion up to another level; making you feel like you're really in the thick of a galactic war against powerful enemies.
