Tesla may be planning a future that would have its vehicles arrive without side mirrors, as it is something that is not a need for self-driving vehicles and its autonomous systems. Elon Musk tease this development for its electric cars that would have a significant range reduction for its run with side mirrors present in cars, currently in place now.

Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk verbally reacts in front of the newly unveiled all-electric battery-powered Tesla Cybertruck with broken glass on windows following a demonstation that did not go as planned on November 21, 2019 at Tesla Design Center in Hawthorne, California.

Tesla vehicles may have their side mirrors automatically adjusted for the new driver of the vehicle says Elon Musk, but the tech CEO also added that it is not something that is needed for future self-driving cars.

Side mirrors have been standards for vehicles, especially for those that still rely on human skills for their drive, as drivers need to look at them before changing lanes to avoid any collisions or accidents.

Musk added that side mirrors for Tesla EVs are significantly reducing the range for vehicles by as much as five percent, focusing on the drag it causes when driving, using more power for users. The range reduction caused by side mirrors is mostly focused on cruising at highway speeds, as it consumes more power for its run.

Side Mirrors for Cybertruck: Applicable for Removal

However, Musk also said that it is legal in America to modify vehicles and change different parts of them, including the side mirrors that would soon come for the Tesla Cybertruck. Of course, side mirrors are a standard for the new electric pickup that will soon arrive for the public, with an easily removable feature it offers for those that want it gone.

Tesla and its Future Vehicle Designs

The famous electric car company will soon bring its new vehicles for the world to experience, and it is soon debuting the arrival of its electric trucks, namely the Tesla Semi and Tesla Cybertruck. However, there are no other announcements regarding the new vehicle designs or variants from the company for its existing lineup.

A significant design for the Cybertruck from the tech CEO before talked about the removal of its side mirrors as it is something that is not needed in the vehicle's use. Musk previously claimed that the future development of its vehicles would no longer need side mirrors for its drive, also it is only a piece of additional equipment for the EV.

However, the new Cybertruck would allow modifications to the vehicle that would not have any side mirrors available for their use. Additionally, this would be applicable for other Tesla EVs, especially to users that mostly rely on the autonomous driving systems available in their vehicles.

Side mirrors are safety equipment for cars, but they may be a thing of the past for new ones that have driving systems available.
