With Pokemon coming back to mainstream pop culture, McDonald's is bringing back the Pokemon card Happy Meal. Although advertised to come in a Pikachu-printed box, a customer said they were only given the regular packaging with some getting the wrong toys and no Pokemon.

McDonald's Happy Meals Pokemon Cards Mixup Started with No Pikachu Printed Box

In a story by Kotaku, their writer decided to rush to the nearest McDonald's in order to get their Happy Meal as soon as they heard the promotion. They wanted to get the Pokemon cards and bought two Happy Meals despite not being a kid.

Instead of being given the advertised Pikachu printed box to hold the package, they were simply given plain Happy Meal boxes. Luckily, each box still came with a pack of different Pokemon trading cards.

Other Customers were Left with Old Space Jam 2 Toys

As per Kotaku, however, other customers who decided to order the Happy Meal were only given Space Jam 2 toys. The latest McDonald's promotion is supposed to include a Pokemon spinner toy, a pack of four trading cards, and a cardboard Pikachu coin.

The toys are meant to be used at a party wherein someone would spin the wheel in order to get the stat. Up to four players will then have to compare their cards and the person with the highest score will be the winner.

Someone Bought Seven Happy Meals Only to Get Seven Old Space Jam 2 Toys

A lot of adults also decided to join in and buy Happy Meals for themselves in order to get the Pokemon cards. Other customers, however, did not get the Pokemon cards they were expecting and instead got something entirely different.

A lot of people were deeply unhappy getting the toys in the Happy Meal when they were expecting Pokemon cards. A certain Twitter user even shared how he purchased seven Happy Meals and all of them were just repeat toys of LeBron James in Space Jam 2.

Another Customer was Able to Swap Their Space Jam Toys for Pikachu Trading Cards

Another customer shared that despite specifically indicating which toy they wanted, they only got Space Jam toys. Luckily for the user, they were able to swap out the Space Jam toys in order to get the Pokemon toys.

What makes this move so bad for a lot of people is that Space Jam 2 toys were initially distributed during the summer of 2021. This means that the toys are in fact extremely old leftovers.

Similar Issue Happened During the Thor: Love and Thunder Happy Meal

Before collaborating with Pokemon, Happy Meals also decided to pair with Marvel's very own Thor: Love and Thunder. Instead of getting the Thor toys, however, they were given the Scooby Doo toy which is also another old leftover from previous collaborations.

Despite being an exciting move by McDonald's, a Reddit user explained that some stores just did not have the Pokemon shipment upon the announcement of the collaboration.
