Apple Watch is a wearable gadget with important functions that allow you to monitor your overall well-being.

The device measures your heart rate, counts your steps, records the calories you've burned, and more.

The device also has a meditation feature, an alert to remind you to drink water, and a feature that tracks your sleep to ensure that you're well rested.

Despite all of the advances in wearable devices, Apple Watch is still missing one thing: a sick mode feature.

Sick Mode on Apple Watches

According to Mashable, since the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple Watch users have been requesting a sick mode feature since the device kept urging them to go for a run and burn some calories.

Having a feature that will allow your Apple Watch to give you good advice when you are sick instead of telling you to go to the gym can be helpful because you won't feel guilty about being inactive, according to 9to5Mac.

Even though you won't get Activity reminders by leaving your Apple Watch on the charger, it will disrupt your progress and the data you've managed to gather so far.

If you leave your device on the charger, it will read that you've been asleep the entire time. If you wear the device while you're up, you'll get endless notifications about your daily workout.

Manually Turn Off Activity Reminders

When you're ill, you can manually turn off the Activity reminders on your Apple Watch.

To do this, just open the Watch app on your iPhone, and make sure that you are on the My Watch tab. Next, tap on Notifications and select Activity.

You can toggle off Daily Coaching, Special Challenges, and Stand Reminders.

From the Notifications window, you can also toggle off Breathe. Although meditating is a must, especially if you're feeling stressed out, it can't really help when you're not feeling well.

Once you've recovered and you're ready to be active again, you have to turn the Activity reminders back on.

Benefits of a Sick Mode

According to CultofMac, Sick Mode is more than just turning off Activity reminders. When Sick Mode is on, your device could remind you to drink water, eat something, check your temperature, and even remind you to take your medications.

Sick Mode could also track the medication that you took to make sure it is on schedule. It could even take the step of warning you when you're too active and that you need to slow down and rest.

Obsessive Engagement of Streaks

Apple Watch users take their fitness goals seriously, so when they're ill, disrupting the streak can set them back.

According to psychologist Adam Alter, streaks on Apple Watches encourage obsessive engagement instead of healthy engagement.

This is because it often turns a healthy activity into compulsive behavior, making some people feel obligated to follow their activities even if they're tired or sick.

Sick Mode on Apple Watches can help emphasize the importance of rest, relaxation, and recovery, and it can also send out a message that just because you've decided to put a hold on your fitness goals, it does not mean that you've failed.
