Navigation apps on your smartphone offer driving, walking, or biking directions. It provides a clear picture of a place or establishment even before you get there. It also highlights famous establishments in your area.

Navigation apps are amazing general guides to day-to-day living. Currently, there are three famous navigation apps that smartphone owners use: Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps.

All three apps are created for the same thing, to help you find the places that you want to go to. But these apps also have features that will make your road trip easier. Check out some of them.

Use Voice Commands to Ask for Directions

Since you'll probably be driving while you check the navigation apps, it is safer to activate voice commands for directions so you can keep both your hands on the wheel and your eyes glued to the road.

To activate voice commands on Google Maps, you must ensure that Google Assistant is up and running.

Next, open the Google Maps app and say, "Okay, Google."

Ask Google Assistant questions, like when the next turn will be, where the nearest gas station is, and more.

According to Fox News, Google Assistant executes your command without leaving Google Maps, so your navigation won't be interrupted.

The same applies if you are using Apple Maps, but say "Hey, Siri" instead. If you're using Waze, go to Settings and activate Google Assistant so you can use voice commands on the app.

Share Your Estimated Time of Arrival

When you're running late to a meeting or an event, you can let other people know when you'll be with them by sharing your estimated arrival time and the route you're taking.

If you're using Google Maps, you can share your ETA by tapping Directions, choosing your destination, and tapping Start. Swipe up and choose Share Tip Progress.

Choose a contact and tap Share so you can share your location until you arrive at the destination.

According to HowtoGeek, check your destination and tap Directions if you're using Apple Maps. Once you've picked a route, ask Siri to share your ETA.

You need to say the name of the person with that you want to share your ETA, and Siri will search for them in your contact list.

If you are using Waze, tap Share, and you can send the link of your ETA via messaging app or email.

Travel incognito Feature

Navigation apps save your information when you open them, so if you want to go somewhere without the apps saving your route, you can go incognito, according to HowtoGeek.

The Travel Incognito feature will prevent the navigation apps from keeping your search history or location history.

If you're using Google Maps, just tap your profile picture in the top right corner and turn on Incognito Mode.

If you are using Waze, your username and more may appear on a publicly available map. People can also see your name and photo.

To stop that, just tap My Waze, tap on Settings, and click on Privacy. Then you can tap on Go Invisible.
