By creating a laser-powered lawn mower, YouTuber Daniel Riley channeled his inner crazy scientist. Although this looks like a cool invention, it is also the very definition of a project you should never attempt to do at home.

His scary creation uses a 3D-printed gimbal and a 40-watt CNC cutting machine laser that is almost 8,000 times as powerful as a laser pointer to vaporize grass blades, according to Futurism.

Warning: Do not try this at home. YouTuber Daniel Riley channeled his inner crazy scientist after creating a dangerous laser-powered lawn mower. This is the definition of a project you shouldn't attempt at home. His terrifying creation uses a 3D-printed gimbal and a 40-watt CNC cutting machine laser that is almost 8,000 times more powerful than a laser pointer to vaporize grass blades.

Was The Invention Effective?

"It's not going to cut your finger off or anything like that, but a direct hit to your eyeball, even for just a nanosecond, would make you blind for the rest of your life, " Riley cautioned in his YouTube video.

This invention was definitely intriguing, but there's a catch: it was ineffective. Riley had to mow the grass and other weeds in a constricting beam over the course of a full week.

The end product is not the neatly mowed lawn that one might anticipate from even a cheap lawnmower, but rather a cone-shaped region of singed organics that may not be so pleasant to look at.

The laser mower was operated against a small slope, so the beam always ended up pointing into the higher ground ahead of it for the safety of Riley's neighbors.

The laser was indeed strong enough to cut through weeds and grass blades, but most of the time, it just weakens the plants until they fall over when they are scorched, as noted by Gizmodo.

The lengthy process of cutting through the grass is also not ideal for people who want to find easier ways to mow their lawns.

The Mower's Performance

Performance is a fair term for a mower that can only cut a modest six to an eight-foot-long swath of grass in a week. The mower's performance was improved by further narrowing the beam and swapping out a single laser diode with an array of 24 smaller diodes.

Riley did improve the laser's ability to kill plant life by mounting it to an automated RC car that could advance gradually over time but with a top speed of around two meters per day.

Hence, mowing the grasses with the laser was still low and ineffective.

The invention was definitely mind-blowing and entertaining to watch. But even though it is cool, it is better to be safe than sorry, so do not try this at home!
