When sandbox video game Minecraft announced its decision to ban NFTs and other blockchain technologies from its in-game servers in July, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney had a different take.

Epic Games demonstrates that game developers should be able to select whatever is best for their respective games, "Developers should be free to decide how to build their games, and you should be free to decide whether to play them," Sweeney says in a tweet.

The Epic Games executive believes that stores and operating system makers should not interfere by imposing their views on others. He also stated that the game company has no plans to ban blockchain-based games from the platform anytime soon.

Epic Games Is Adding an NFT Game to the Platform

According to Coindesk, Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, has added a blockchain-based game to its marketplace section. Based on the same report, this is the first time the game publisher has listed an NFT-backed Web3 game. The game in discussion is called "Blankos Beach Party," another NFT-based initiative supported by investor funding rounds.

"Blankos Block Party" is another game in the free-to-play, play-to-earn genre. Its developers say that the game is set to be a multiplayer game that will feature a set of collectible digital vinyl toys called "Blankos." These 'Blankos' are non-fungible tokens that can be purchased, upgraded, appraised, and sold in the game ecosystem.

The aforementioned game was created by NFT game studio Mythical Games and Third Kind Games, whose Series C funding round raised more than $1.25 billion in seed funding. With blockchain projects and initiatives continuing to attract investors, we expect more Web3 platforms to gain traction in the coming months.

Blockchain-based industries appear alive and well, despite the recent financial crisis, which dealt severe blows to mainstream and high street trading. Recent funding for Web3 projects indicates that investors are up to something. In the past months, there has been a particular focus on initiatives involving gaming and decentralized finance, or 'GameFi.'

More About Epic Games First NFT Game

Decrypt report tells us that Mythical Games' most well-known game, "Blankos Block Party," was previously only available through its website after initiating an open beta in December 2020. In June this year, the NFT game company stated that it had more than one million users.

The game's user-friendly mechanics set it apart from most blockchain-based games. Furthermore, the NFT game does not go all out in implementing its Web3 dynamics. It is not necessary to own NFTs to play the game.

Digital tokens known as NFTs are frequently purchased and valued using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. NFTs are valued according to their rarity and uniqueness. A blockchain token in the game counts for ownership of various online goods, including in-game items like characters, weapons, and virtual real estate.
