AWU says that this was the first instance that Google kicked its employees who are affiliated with a union.

Based on a report by Gizmodo on Friday, Oct. 7, the search engine company has terminated a pair of employees who are working at the Council Bluffs data center.

Google alleged that the workers are part of a group that discusses the working conditions and compensations inside the company.

According to the Alphabet Workers Union, the company believed that the contract employees are affiliated with the union that's why it decided to kick them out.

AWU said that Google might be doing that to intimidate other workers who are planning to participate in union activities.

In an interview with Gizmodo, the organization noted this as the first incident where Google dropped the employees because of their connection to the union.

AWU further claimed that a Google technician has walked out from a private chat composed of her co-workers. The protest was in line with the time clock policy of the company.

According to Elisia Cave, the management witnessed their actions and decided to pull them out because they were unhappy. For AWU, this kind of treatment can count as intimidation to the employees.

"It doesn't feel good to go to work and feel like I have to look over my shoulder. I want us to be able to express our grievances, whether something small like the time clock or something bigger like better salaries and know we'll be taken seriously," Cave said in a statement.

Other Complaints From Google Workers

AWU later learned that the security guards who are assigned to data centers in North and South Carolina have experienced an unfair labor practice as well.

According to the worker's union, the company nullified security clearances of the affected employees after knowing that they were participating in discussions involving workplace benefits.

Another issue that surfaced about Google's unlawful work practice involves two employees who were rejected to renew their contracts. These workers reportedly engaged in talks about workplace conditions.

Apart from that, the complainants said that the tech giant did not grant them both parental and sick pay leave. Allied and Modis are allegedly conniving with Google's questionable treatment of its workers.

Back in March, a Googlegeist survey found that there's an increase in the number of Google employees who are growing "unhappy" with promotion, compensation, benefits, and other related aspects.

The latest bout of Google's actions towards its employees is not new anymore to the tech industry. Last Thursday, Oct. 6, Amazon suspended at least 50 workers following the fire protest.

The e-commerce company said that the involved employees refused to work their respective shifts after the incident.

Meanwhile, TechXplore reported that Apple has illegally threatened retail workers in Oklahoma for allegedly spearheading the unionization election that will kick off next week.
