Apple is best known for featuring the flagship iPhone lineup with the Pro variants since the arrival of the iPhone 11, but before that, there was only the then-current release of the iPhone for all. The iPhone 5 saw the first shift to delivering a cheaper and more affordable version by changing its body from its aluminum finish to a plastic body, which is with the iPhone 5C.

Now, Apple is set to mark this smartphone as an obsolete device, ending the era for Apple's budget smartphone that presents a different body.

MacRumors was able to retrieve a memo from Apple which announced the company's plans to mark the iPhone 5C as an obsolete device by November, and it is a step further after its vintage product classification now. The memo is a notice to all employees for their information and knowledge of an update to its obsolete list among its tech releases.

In the present, the iPhone 5C remains a vintage product but not an obsolete one, but this new development will solidify its state in the famed history of Apple's past devices.

Being marked as obsolete means that there will no longer be any repairs available, also support for its OS.

The iPhone 5C's Impact on the World

The iPhone 5C gave the world the first budget smartphone of the company but did not necessarily lag behind its counterpart, the iPhone 5s. Nevertheless, the device does not have a fingerprint scanner, but it features the latest technology from Apple, as well as the company's first color variety offers to the world, a new pop for the iPhone lineup.

Apple's Budget Smartphones

The iPhone 5C is one of the least expensive iPhones that launched to the world, offering a chance to experience the famed smartphone under a tight budget, but still get all its features. Previous offers go as low as $300 for its 8GB variant, something that is far from the iPhone 5s' original price back in its September 2013 release.

Apple continued this trend with the iPhone SE first-generation, that utilized the iPhone 5s' body but with upgraded internal components and better features that come with it.

The next budget smartphone from Apple came with a redesigned body coming from the iPhone Xs, and it now features a glass body with an aluminum frame, known as the iPhone XR

It was not until 2020 that the iPhone SE received another upgrade, now sporting the iPhone 8's body with upgraded internal components, featuring the latest offers from Cupertino. People thought that the new SE will follow in the XR's footsteps with the Face ID and notch, but it did not.

Apple is continuing to create budget smartphones for people to buy and alternate to get the iPhone experience without paying for a premium price and getting the latest features there are to iPhones. The 5C is a legacy and its first to take the less expensive route, a device that Apple will soon consider obsolete as time finally catches up with the famed plastic smartphone.
