For most of us, we have been used to collectively referring to the triumvirate of productivity apps, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, as Office.

While it is hard to unlearn that, Microsoft is looking to retire the "Office" branding to replace it with "Microsoft 365."

According to a report by The Verge, the productivity software collection of Microsoft has been known to us as "Office" for more than three decades or 30 years. But regardless of that, the software maker announced that "Office is becoming Microsoft 365."

To be clear, the news outlet notes that the Redmond-based tech giant is not ditching its productivity apps, such as Word and Powerpoint.

A Microsoft logo is displayed at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona on March 2, 2022. - The Mobile World Congress, where smartphone and telecoms companies show off their latest products and reveal their strategic visions, is expected to welcome more than 40,000 guests over its four-day run.

The Verge notes in its report that Microsoft is looking to initially start the rebrand this November with Office.com. By next month, it would start rocking a new design, as well as the 365 brandings.

On the other hand, the rest of the Office apps in various platforms, which include PC Windows, iOS, and Android, is following through by next year, or in January, to be exact.

According to a recent report by Gizmodo, the Corporate Vice President for Modern Work of Microsoft, Jared Spataro, explained what the new 365 app offers.

The Microsoft VP notes that the "new app serves as a hub for all the productivity apps Microsoft 365 offers and provides a simple, yet powerful experience."

The tech exec says that besides the productivity apps like Word, the new app also allows users to "quickly access files shared in meetings." Essentially, the giant firm is looking to make it somewhat of a hub for files as well, apart from its current apps.

The new app also provides a feed that shows meetings and updates from colleagues, much like how social media works.

However, unlike Office, the new 365 app requires a monthly subscription from its users.
