The tech industry may know José Álvaro Avalos as the man who led Intel in providing innovative platforms such as digital signage, interactive kiosks, and many more. But one might wonder, where is he now?
This former Intel guy is still providing innovations with his new venture Austin as the co-founder, and CEO and chief revenue officer of an Intel spinoff called AustinGIS.
"AustinGIS provides institutions, large enterprises, and the public sector with IoT, smart city, digital transformation, and infrastructure as-a-service-through large-scale financing and turnkey solutions-at scale," according to the company's website.
"These smart offerings provide unprecedented safety, personalized experiences, real-time decision-making, and autonomous capabilities to the retail, education, public sector, industrial, energy, and transportation industries."

Avalos' Intel Run
Avalos was the general manager of RBHE Vertical Markets and vice president of the Internet of Things Group at Intel Corporation before co-founding Austin GIS.
He oversaw Intel's global business for visual, transactional, and edge computing solutions, which included providing platforms for digital signage, interactive kiosks, interactive whiteboards, smart vending machines, ATMs, point of sale systems, thin clients, and edge computing various sectors - such as banking, hospitality, restaurants, retail, and education.
Jose also founded Intel's Digital Signage and Visual Solutions division, and in 2013 Digital Signage Today named him one of the top 11 CEOs in the sector.
He held the positions of general manager of the ultra-wideband networking operation and director of marketing for the consumer electronics business unit earlier in his Intel career, according to his LinkedIn bio.
Additionally, Jose was instrumental in the development of Intel's initial platforms for ultrawideband, multi-processor print imaging, digital television, web appliances, analog set-top boxes, ultraportable notebooks, in-car computing, and many more.
He also prides himself on three Intel Achievement Awards that he received during his run at the company.

Awards and Educational Background
Avalos was listed among the top 100 Hispanics working in technology on the HITEC 100 list for 2021 and 2022. He has more than 15 granted patents, and more are pending in the fields of digital signage, visual solutions, and edge computing.
The CEO also has degrees in electrical engineering (BS, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and electrical engineering (MS, Arizona State University). He also holds degrees from Stanford Graduate School of Business' executive acceleration program and Harvard Business School's general management executive program.
Leading AustinGIS
Avalos was appointed as CEO of AustinGIS last June. He is leading a company that serves "large-scale Infrastructure-as-a-Service" for several businesses. The venture appears to be promising since Intel is also backing it up, along with IT service provider HCL Technologies, provider of smart city solutions RADARApp/RADAR USA, IT consultant Tech Mahindra, and AI analytics expert Groupe Technologies.
The company began its operations last fall but it only had an official launch last May. This means that AustinGIS has a long way to go, but with Avalos and his wealthy Intel experience leading the way, they may just spin this spinoff to meteoric heights.
