Nanograf Technologies proves once again that it's the leading company when it comes to lithium-ion batteries. Recently, it has achieved another breakthrough on the energy-density milestone of its 18650 cells. The new record for this is 810 Wh/L (4.0Ah capacity).

The previous record set on the same milestone sits at 800Wh/L, just 10 units short of the updated one.

According to Electrek's report on Thursday, Oct. 20, the Chicago-based company confirmed that it succeeded in running the 18650 Lithium-ion cells with a new record for the energy-density.

The milestone has reportedly hit 810 Wh/L, making it the longest-running 4.0Ah battery in the world. Speaking of Ah, this unit refers to ampere-hours. It's the amount of the battery's charge which allows the flow of 1 ampere per hour.

Last year, NanoGraf tested if its 18650 cylindrical lithium-ion battery would hit a new record after some time. The battery maker found that its 3.8Ah cell achieved 800Wh/L energy density. The difference between the past and the current record is just minimal. It sits at only 10Wh/L.

Nanograf stated that the newly-commercialized silicon-anode cell boasts "increased stability and highly scalable nature." The company said that it's now ready to suit the production.

What's a Silicon Anode Battery?

According to Techopedia, this battery-based battery is a good alternative to the usual batteries. It's more innovative compared to traditional anodes with graphite or lithium.

As such, silicon provides a longer life for the battery. It also gives higher storage for energy, making it suitable for high-powered usage.

NanoGraf acknowledged that its 1860 cell is a huge leap when it comes to the local battery industry. It's been a significant product in establishing automotive electrification in the US.

Additionally, the silicon anode is also a part of the Biden administration's directive toward improving employment in the United States.

"The Inflation Reduction Act calls for and supports the onshoring of key battery components in the US, and these historic opportunities are providing additional momentum around the adoption of upstream US innovation like NanoGraf's," NanoGraf CEO Dr. Francis Wang said.

He added that the company's products are what help more people by creating more jobs. It's not all about innovation since it also opens more opportunities to other people and promotes national security in the homeland.

Back in March, NanoGraf secured a development contract worth $1 million from the US Department of Defense. It is slated to produce the most advanced battery technology for the American army, according to a previous report by Globe Newswire.

The volume production for lithium-ion cells will begin in the second quarter of 2024.
