It appears that iMessage has encountered some issues today, Oct. 26, after some users reported that the Apple messaging platform has stopped working.

iMessage is an iPhone, iPad, and Mac chat and online messaging service. Apple provides iMessage to its users, a free alternative to text messages or SMS. Reports tell us that when iMessage fails to function properly, it is usually due to a problem with Apple's cloud services.

The problem prevented iMessage, which is built into most Apple devices, from sending or receiving messages. According to The Independent, the issues also appeared to be affecting Apple's FaceTime service, which delivers video and audio calls, causing phones to appear to have malfunctioned.

There are several tweets about the problem, and Apple's System Status page reports an ongoing outage. People took to Twitter, as usual, to see if others were experiencing the same problem.

iMessage Is Down, Users Report

Based on the online tracker website Downdetector, the majority of users reported the problem between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 AM EST. Many users have reported that their iMessage has been unable to send or receive messages. It also is worth noting that the large bulk of those reporting problems appeared to be from the United States.

Downdetector monitors outages by an aggregating status report from various sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform. The outage could have affected a larger number of people than the data available on the tracking website.

The same Independent report tells us that users were also writing to complain about their phone network services, with increased reports of problems at Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. However, this appeared to be due to a problem with the texting service, which caused the phone to appear to stop working.

Apple Resolves iMessage, FaceTime Issue

Apple confirms on its System Status page that the issue with iMessage and FaceTime has been resolved, as well as a few other issues that have recently been cleared up. According to Apple, the iMessage problem was resolved at 12:15.

Apple has yet to resolve an issue with its iCloud Keychain, which is said to be slow or unavailable as of this writing. Another persistent issue is Photos, where users may also encounter slow or unavailable service.

In related news, over 68,000 Whatsapp users in the UK reported having some trouble using the app to send messages. In the meantime, 15,000 and 19,000 users in South Africa and Singapore, respectively, were impacted.

The social media tech giant Meta apologized for the inconvenience they caused to everyone who relied on the chatting platform following the disruption, which reportedly lasted for two hours. There is no indication yet that the issues from Apple and WhatsApp were linked.
