A new type of 300 millimeter wafer with semiconductor chips and finished microchips of the semiconductor German manufacturer Bosch are seen in Dresden, eastern Germany on May 31, 2021.

This new campus is expected to attract more semiconductor specialists and other related experts.

Thanks to the efforts of the Lingang Specia Area (a Chinese metropolis) and the Integrated Circuit Industry Association, as well as Shanghai University, the new training facility was built.

This semiconductor training facility is the third campus launched in Shanghai. The first one was established in Jiading district in September.

On the other hand, another facility was opened in Zhangjiang in August.

These training campuses were opened months after China rolled out its incentives to attract new talents, as well as companies for the semiconductor supply chain.

Aside from incentives, the Chinese government also created a new policy to train senior university students who didn't take microelectronics courses.

China also made efforts to ensure veteran workers could be involved in the chip assembly sector.

China to Have Its Own Silicon Valley?

China started enhancing its chipset industry after the United States imposed its restrictions on the Asian country's SoC sector.

Because of this, the Chinese government wanted to ensure that its local semiconductor sector could compete against the U.S.

Now, the new semiconductor training campus is expected to allow the Lingang Special Area to have a world-class base for integrated circuits.

Some experts even claimed that this metropolis could be China's own Silicon Valley. Bloomberg reported that Lingang is a 120-square-kilometer patch of land located southeast of Shanghai.

It was developed in 2018 as China's top free-trade area. However, many things should still be done before the Lingang Special Area can be transformed into the Chinese Silicon Valley.

Previously, new Qualcomm chipsets are expected to arrive as the company plans to return to the server market.

We also reported that Micron's new semiconductor facility is expected to be the largest one in the U.S.
