The SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket sits on launch pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center as it is prepared for tomorrow's lift-off on February 5, 2018 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The rocket, which is the most powerful rocket in the world, is scheduled to make its maiden flight between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

This new partnership between the aerospace company and Data Lake Inc. is expected to help the rising internet service to expand in Southeast Asia.

Data Lake Inc., a company based in the Philippines owned by Henry Sy Jr., announced on Thursday, Oct. 27, that a deal with SpaceX's Starlink has been signed.

Thanks to this latest collaboration, Data Lake Inc. is now the space agency's first Southeast Asian partner.

The new partnership with Data Lake Inc. is its latest move to roll out Starlink in Southeast Asia.

"The Philippines is an archipelago, and connecting our country to the wider world often requires extensive infrastructure," said Anthony Almeda, Data Lake Inc.'s chairman, via Euro News

As of writing, there are many areas in the Philippines that are having a hard time acquiring the internet services they need.

This is because the Asian country is composed of 7,600 islands; most of them are isolated and have mountainous terrains.

Since SpaceX's Starlink broadband service relies on thousands of satellites to relay connections, it is expected to reach isolated areas.

What Philippines Should Expect

Inquirer.Net reported that once Starlink's internet services roll out in the country, Philippine-based consumers are expected to pay around $99 for monthly subscription fees.

Starlink Sales VP Jonathan Hofellere said Filipinos could expect Starlink to arrive in the Philippines in the coming months.

However, he didn't clarify if SpaceX's internet service would be rolled out before 2022 ends.
