The new Mavic 3 Classic is the compact version and affordable alternative to DJI's flagship Mavic 3 drone. It combines many of the original's best features at a price range that is more appealing to consumers.

The basic unit of the Mavic 3 Classic may be purchased for $1,469. It can go up to $1,599 or $1,749, depending on whether it comes with the remote controllers - a DJI RC or an RC-N1. To compare, the base model of the Mavic 3 costs a minimum of $2,049.

Mavic 3 Classic is available for purchase starting Wednesday, Nov. 2. It meets regulatory standards, and the DJI expects the FAA to approve its Remote ID compliance system, which according to The Verge, will come into effect on September 16, 2023.

Mavic 3 vs. Mavic 3 Classic

The original Mavic 3 drone was equipped with an extra telephoto lens. However, the Mavic 3 Classic does not have this feature. Instead, it has the same 4/3 CMOS 20-megapixel camera, O3 Plus communication technology, and a maximum flying duration of 46 minutes.

Engadget reported that the Mavic 3 Fly More Kit, which retails for $649, is compatible with the Classic drone, too. A bundle includes two flight batteries, a 100W battery charging hub, a 65W vehicle charger, three pairs of quiet propellers, and a DJI convertible carrying bag.

Using its H.264 and H.265 encoders, the camera on the Mavic 3 Classic can record video in 5.1K / 50 frames per second (fps), 4K / 60 fps, and 1080p / 60 fps. It can also record slow-motion video at 4K / 120 fps and 1080p / 200 fps.

It supports Wi-Fi 6 to let you download photographs and video from the drone to a mobile device at up to 80MB/s without connecting to the remote controller.

Classic's Camera

The camera on the Classic includes 24mm equivalent focal length lens and an aperture that can be adjusted between f/2.8 and f/11. It also features 12.8 stops of natural dynamic range. It can shoot in time-lapse, hyperlapse, and panoramic modes, and it comes with DJI's automatic Quickshots mode for taking pictures.

This Classic drone has a cruise control feature that lets you set a constant flight speed to focus more on photography than maneuvering the device.

The system also comes with the ActiveTrack 5.0 feature, which can identify subjects, focus on them, and sync the drone and camera's movements for more stable footage.

Classic's Safety Features

Mavic 3 Classic is equipped with a number of safety systems to keep the unit safe from danger or crashes.

The drone has eight visual sensors that provide data to an obstacle avoidance system called APAS 5.0; with this information, the drone can autonomously design routes around potential dangers. Plus, its Return To Home feature can choose the most direct route back to its takeoff location.
