CHICAGO, IL - JULY 21: Founder and CEO of Rivian RJ Scaringe and Amazon Vice President of Transportation Udit Madan, pose with an Electric Delivery Vehicle (EDV), during a launch event at an Amazon facility on July 21, 2022 in Chicago, Illinois.

Over a billion of packages are shipped every day, and there will be more this coming holiday season. Initially, Amazon invested $700 million in Rivian in 2019, and in the same year, the company committed to buying over 100,000 EDVs from Rivian as part of The Climate Pledge that is set to roll out between 2021 and 2024.

It was in February 2021 when Amazon started deliveries using their EDVs in Los Angeles. At the time, the eCommerce giant confirmed that the EDVs would also make their way to 15 additional cities.

So, earlier this year, Amazon started rolling out EDVs across many cities. The rollout of the Rivian EDVs is going as planned, with over 1,000 fully electric vans debuting in over 100 US cities this holiday season.

The Road to Zero-Emission Vehicles

With the growing number of their EDVs on the road, it only shows the eCommerce giant's commitment to zero-emission vehicles that will benefit the environment and their company as well.

So far, the company has delivered over five million packages using their Rivian EDVs. This brings them closer to their goal of deploying 100,000 EDVs by 2030.

What Amazon Drivers Have to Say

Amazon drivers are also happy with the changes. So far, they have nothing but praise about the features of their EDVs, such as the superior visibility, 360-degree cameras, spacious cabin and cargo area, ventilated seats, and more.

They also said that their EDVs are very comfortable, easy to drive, and can quickly charge. They are also happy that the EDVs do not emit any heat, thus making it possible for them to keep the van warm when it is cold outside.

It is easy to see that some of the drivers had zero issues with their EDVs given the glowing comments. This is a good sign for Amazon and Rivian.

What's Next

The coming years promise a bright future for Amazon and Rivian. There is no doubt that the rollout of their EDVs to 100 cities will greatly help reduce their carbon footprint, and the communities will surely benefit from a greener Amazon.

For now, Amazon and Rivian are concentrated on making their EDVs even better, as well as for the eCommerce giant to expand their business.

The EDVs that Amazon and Rivian are building are proof that the future is now. These electric delivery vans are helping to make the world a better place, and the eCommerce giant will surely lean on them more as time goes on. Aside from the growth of Amazon, the company is also making a difference in the world, and that is something that is definitely worth celebrating.
