The holiday shopping season is quickly approaching, and with the Black Friday Sale starting in a few days, some of us may already be making plans to buy gifts for friends and family. Amazon makes it simple to find something that everyone will enjoy.

More than the value of the products we intend to cover in fancy wrappings, the element of surprise makes any gift more special. However, if you share an Amazon Prime account with family members, it may be difficult to conceal your purchases.

Keep Purchases a Secret

Some family members may discover your surprise in a variety of ways. If you have an Amazon Echo device, Alexa could give away your surprise by announcing an Amazon app notification. Or if you are not careful enough, a family member could take a quick look at your shopping history and, just like that, no more surprises await.

In this article, we will discuss easy ways to keep these surprises to make your and your family's holidays more special.

Set up an Amazon Household Account

Since Prime memberships can be shared, CNET tells us that each person must have their own personal account.

By doing this, you can grant more benefits to the people you share your account with. This can include up to four teens, four kids, and one other adult.

Each individual will have a profile, and the adults can keep the rest of the family from taking a look at their past purchases.

But how do you configure Amazon Household for your Prime membership? To do this, you must visit the Amazon Household webpage and sign in. Follow this link to sign in easily.

Next Steps:

  1. Navigate the webpage and find the "Create Your Household" section. Under the said section, you can now select "Add Adult," "Add Teen," and "Add Child." Note that when you share your account with another adult, they'll have access to your payment methods.
  2. You can tap "Continue" after entering the name and email address of the adult you are adding. You can select "Sign up together on this device" and enter their information.
  3. When you select the teens option, enter their name and birthday using the on-screen instructions. Tap "Continue." They can create a login after accepting the invitation, and you can select which payment method they can use.
  4. For children, enter their first name and birthday and select an icon for them. Tap "Add Child."

Stop Alexa from Announcing Your Amazon Notifications

To keep the element of surprise in your gift orders, disable the feature in the Alexa app with these steps from USA Today:

  1. Launch the Alexa app on your smartphone.
  2. Select "More" then "Settings."
  3. Select "Notifications."
  4. Go to "Amazon Shopping."
  5. Under the section "Let Alexa say or show titles for items you've ordered," uncheck the box labeled "For items in delivery updates."

Archive Orders

To archive an order, go to "Account & Lists," then "Your Account," and select "Your Orders." Locate the order you want to archive and select "Archive Order." This will remove the item from your order history's immediate view.

Orders that have been archived can still be viewed by going to the "Your Account" page and selecting "Archived orders." You can also restore these items by selecting Unarchive Order.
