Mercedes-Benz's EV motor factory in Germany will soon be enhanced.

Once the needed enhancements are completed, the manufacturing plant is expected to have a one million yearly capacity. 

Previously, the luxury automaker announced that it would scale up its Untertürkheim plant. 

Mercedes-Benz confirmed that it would enhance the factory to deliver more EV motors for next-gen Mercedes EQ vehicles. 

Now, the car manufacturer has a targeted date for its new yearly capacity. 

Mercedes-Benz to Increase German EV Motor Factory's Capacity

According to Electrek's latest report, Mercedes-Benz's Untertürkheim factory is expected to produce one million EV motors by 2024.

It is expected to maintain this new capacity in the following years.

"One million electric drives from Untertürkheim! This result shows that our efforts over the past years have paid off," said Michael Haberle, Chairman of the Works Council at the Mercedes-Benz Unterturkheim plant. 

Mercedes-Benz's official press release confirmed that the Unterturkheim factory will have new assembly lines, which are expected to be constructed by 2023. 

Aside from the Unterturkheim plant, the Bad Cannstatt plant is also expected to have new assembly lines.

The Unterturkheim EV motor factory is considered to be the largest location in the global Mercedes-Benz powertrain production network. 

This plant has several factory annexes in the Neckar valley. Because the location is massive, the plant can support over 16,000 employees. 

The luxurious carmaker uses this factory to manufacture batteries, axles, transmissions, engines, and other components for its electric vehicles. 

The Unterturkheim location is also where the company's research and development teams are located, consisting of more than 3,000 staff.

As of writing, Mercedes-Benz is already testing its electric drive system parts at the Unterturkheim manufacturing plant. 

All these details just show that the German factory is very important for Mercedes-Benz as it transitions to the EV industry.
