Tumblr is now compatible with Livebox! Users in the US may already access Tumblr's new livestreaming video feature on iOS and Android, with a subsequent rollout scheduled for the rest of the world and the desktop site.

The firm has previously allowed users to share streams from other sites, such as YouNow and YouTube, in order to encourage live broadcasts.

New Feature

The newest offering service, dubbed Tumblr Live, is described in further detail in a blog post on the site's help page. This is promoted as a native Tumblr streaming service driven by Livebox, as first reported by The Verge.

Livebox is an end-to-end live streaming solution managed by the Meet Group, which is a subset of the dating app company ParshipMeet Group.

In the same way that viewers may tip streamers using Livebox, Tumblr users can use virtual "Diamonds" to support their favorite creators.

According to reports, Livebox enables both automated and human monitoring of broadcasts and allows streamers to appoint trustworthy viewers to the role of moderators.

Currently, the streaming service only works with people's main Tumblr site, not with any other blogs associated with the same account.

This streaming function will not replace Twitch or YouTube, but it does provide the creative community with another outlet and revenue source.

The Collaboration

As part of its efforts to reinvigorate Tumblr, which it acquired from Verizon in 2019, Automattic has introduced this new functionality.

"We're curious to see how Tumblr's overflowing creativity will blossom now that users have access to native live streaming. Our creators are multi-modal and this is a new color in their palette," Automattic's founder and CEO Matt Mullenweg stated in the press release published by Business Wire.

CEO and co-founder of The Meet Group, Geoff Cook, also expressed that they are ecstatic to have Tumblr on board as a Livebox partner. "Tumblr Live showcases the applicability of live video and creator economy solutions to a range of social platforms and use cases."

The introduction of the Livebox brand corresponds with today's announcement.

Livebox provides its affiliates with white-label livestreaming software, a complete monetization system for brands and creators, AI and 500+ human moderators to examine their content, and talent support to find or promote content artists.

Amid Musk-Twitter Saga

Tumblr has benefited from the current upheaval at Twitter, becoming an attractive alternative after Elon Musk's takeover.

Apparently, Tumblr is a good replacement for Twitter if you are into the meme culture.

Tumblr is basically a microblogging network where messages may be conveyed via many forms, such as quotations, photographs, videos, threads, and more, in contrast to Twitter's short post restriction.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, Twitter has a new policy that forbids the "free promotion" of rival social media platforms.

It declared that it would ban accounts whose only goal is to promote content from other social media platforms and external links, including Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Tribel, Post, Nostr, and Donald Trump's Truth Social.

Despite being a decent alternative for Twitter, it looks like Tumblr did not pose enough of a danger to be singled out in its temporary prohibition related to rivals' links and usernames.
