Tesla Books New 4680 Battery Production Rate Milestone

As per the latest report by Electrek, Tesla has reached a new milestone for its 4680 battery production.

However, it is worth mentioning that the giant EV maker has kept mum about its battery cell production output for several months already. But after the long silence, the automaker now shares an impressive rate.

Electrek notes in its story that the journey of Tesla to work on its own batteries began in 2020. The EV maker introduced a new 4680 battery cell format, which became its first-ever battery cell that the firm developed itself.

The news outlet says that the Musk-owned carmaker previously relied on other existing battery cell formats, such as the 2170 and the 18650. While the EV maker does not develop these formats, the firm still tweaks its chemistry, tuning them for its all-electric cars.

But after years of tuning existing cell formats, the American tech giant decided to work on its own version.

In the past two years that the giant EV maker worked on its own battery cell format, the firm kept quiet with its production progress - until now.

The Musk-led tech giant took to Twitter to share its latest achievement. The tweet revealed that they have already produced a staggering 868,000 battery cells in merely seven days or a week.

New Production Achievement Now Handles 1,000 EVs a Week

The official Twitter account of Tesla says that the new milestone that its 4680 battery cell team recently achieved can now handle more electric cars.

With roughly 870,000 cell production output per week, it can help produce a whopping 1,000 vehicles in seven days. So in a month, it could potentially handle up to 4,000 EVs.

Electrek notes in its report that the new production rate of the 4680 is now pretty enough to power up around 1,000 Tesla Model Y EVs.
