Older security cameras of Arlo will soon lose access to future updates and some perks since the implementation of the end-of-life policy for its products, according to Engadget.

A surveillance camera provides the public a live stream of the Philadelphia Ballot Processing Center on the day of US midterm election in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 8, 2022.

The company sent out emails to announce the new policy, and the first batch of products that will be affected are Generation 3 (VMC3030) and Pro (VMC4030) cameras released in 2014 and 2016, respectively.

With that, these two models will lose their access to the seven free days of cloud storage bundled with the camera starting on April 1, 2023. These are the first models to stop receiving firmware and security updates, along with bug fixes.

No Need to Throw Them Out

Despite the announcement, there is no need to throw the models out because they can still be used to access livestreamed videos and locally-stored video clips that are compatible with the Arlo base stations.

However, users will need to pay for the Secure subscription service to access cloud storage.

Goodbye Email Notifications and Emergency Calling Service

Aside from the end-of-life policy on its products, Arlo will also say goodbye to their email notifications and E911 emergency calling service by April 1. They will also remove the Legacy Video Storage on AWS S3 on January 1, 2024.

Arlo said that they would provide a 30-day advance notice for products to help people decide whether to buy newer devices or continue using their old ones.

The move is not surprising since it is stated in the company's Terms of Use that devices will be "subject to the end-of-life policy." However, this is the first time that the company has enacted the policy.

Arlo cameras are popular devices because of their high-quality and reliable security features. Even though they are nearing their end, they are still a good option for users looking for a security camera that can help them keep a watchful eye on their homes and dear ones.

Indeed, Arlo is not the first company to implement end-of-life policies on security cameras. Ensuring the safety of your home and loved ones is one of the most important things in life. And having the right security camera can help you achieve that.

But with the technology's rapid development, it is still important to include new products in your home security system so you can take advantage of modern security features, such as wireless connectivity and HD video. Staying connected and ready at all times is undeniably one of the best ways to keep your family and home safe.
