Jan De Nul, a Belgium-based contractor, will help build the 3.6GW Dogger Bank located in the UK North Sea with their Voltaire wind turbine, according to a press release.

The Voltaire

This will serve as the second and biggest jack-up vessel in the company's fleet that can support the renewable energy industry. The Voltaire is equipped with a main crane with a 3,000 tonnes capacity and four giant legs of 130 meters that can provide support for the vessel to achieve stable working conditions at water depths of up to 80 meters with an elevated load of 16,000 tonnes. 

With this, Jan De Nul will be able to penetrate deeper waters. The Voltaire and Les Alizés come with all the necessary specifications to meet the needs of offshore renewables today. 

It can be recalled that the company was awarded its first assignment in 2020, a year after the order. Its goal is to lead the construction of the 3.5 HW Dogger Bank offshore wind farm in the UK. 

This will also see the massive ship transport and install a total of 277 GE Haliade-X turbines up to 14MW. In turn, this will generate enough energy that can power up to six million homes every year. 

Dogger Pank Project Director, Steve Wilson also said, "This impressive installation vessel will play a critical role in the construction of all three phases of Dogger Bank Wind Farm when it enters service, demonstrating an innovative engineering solution to the growing challenge presented by larger and more technically demanding wind farms," according to Interesting Engineering.

Conscious of Their Environmental Footprint

Jan De Nul is serious about making the environment a lot better that it equipped the Voltaire with a highly-advanced dual exhaust filter system to remove up to 99 percent of nanoparticles from emissions through a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). At the same time, this will reduce NOx emissions and other pollutants through a selective Catalytic Reduction System (SCR) to certain levels that meet the EU Stave V regulation.

UK and Belgium have been collaborating with wind energy to boost their renewable energy portfolio. This comes after the country's government pledged to meet its decarbonization target in the record of 2020. 

The Dogger Bank project is expected to become a huge benefit for the local community. This will bring in massive investments. It will also be able to provide jobs for its people.

The increased interest of countries in renewable energy is undeniable. It means a lot of wind farms will be constructed in the future. Offshore wind energy is now growing its operations since its cost is expected to be lower than the traditional forms of energy.

Jan De Nul knows that being part of the renewable energy industry is challenging. This is what they are preparing to do. They are now ready to deliver this.
