The Veer X13

Most electric boats on the market today cost around $300,000 and above. While the lower cost models cost below $140,000.

Now, this is where the Veer X13 comes in. Although the price isn't revealed yet, but the company has unveiled two versions of the boat with the ICE-powered version carrying 9.9 hp outboard engine that starts at around $11,000.

Price for the electric version hasn't been revealed yet, but users can expect to be able to buy around ten of them for the price of even the cheapest electric boats above.

An Affordable Electric Boat

You might be wondering how Veer made a low-cost electric bike. It is a 13 ft two-seater boat manufacturer from rotomolded polyethylene. Moreover, it comes with a galvanized trailer as part of the price, which will make it easy for newbies to get started immediately.

In addition, it uses the new Mercury Avator 7.5e electric outboard motor. This is a low power system with only a 750W continuous-rated motor and a peak power rating of 1,000W.

According to Mercury, the electric outboard can perform closer in speed and acceleration to a Mercury 3.5hp FourStroke outboard because of its higher torque and better performance of electric motors compared to gas engines.

The outboard motor uses 1 kWh battery packs that slides in and out of the unit. Then, it comes with a single 48V battery, which is good for 45 minutes when motoring flat out. This is why users must at least carry a second or third battery for longer rides.

Moreover, the electric outboard has a multipurpose tiller handle that can adjust in various directions for comfortable steering from any position or with either hand. In addition, it can also be folded down to become a convenient carrying handle when removing the outboard.

Electric Boats of the Future

With the increasing price of gas, it is likely that the growth of electric outboard sales will continue to accelerate. Furthermore, the increasing popularity of electric boats will also increase their availability in the market. In addition, it is a trend that the electric vehicles is set to grow globally, and thus, a new way to power boats is built.

With the increase in the number of electric boats on the market, it is likely that we will see companies like Veer to manufacture a portable generator in the future.

With this, users will be able to quickly charge their boats using a portable generator during their weekend trips. It is also likely that companies will create more affordable electric boats for people to use.

Moreover, companies will also create better infrastructures for people to charge their electric boats. There are already charging stations for cars and electric buses, but they need to be more readily available to make charging electric boats more convenient.
