Samsung TV Plus Might Expand to Other Smart TV Brands

As per a recent story by The Verge, Samsung is currently talking with another smart TV brand, TCL, to expand its Samsung TV Plus app.

The news outlet reports that other TV makers like LG, Vizio, and TCL, feature their own streaming service like how Samsung does it. These apps also compete with other video streaming apps that work on specific TVs, such as Peacock from NBC, Pluto by Paramount, and Amazon's Freevee.

However, it looks like the giant South Korean phone maker is planning on bringing its TV Plus service to more smart TVs instead of being exclusive to Samsung-branded offerings.

The LowPass newsletter of Janko Roettgers claims that Samsung is already speaking with TCL to bring their TV Plus app to the latter's TV offerings. It is unclear if the South Korean tech firm is also in talks with other TV manufacturers in a bid to expand the reach of its streaming service.

Sam Mobile notes that previous reports claimed that Samsung initially planned on bringing its channels to other TV manufacturers. However, those talks with other brands reportedly failed to push through.

So this time, it looks like the tech giant has revised its plan, and instead, it is reportedly looking to bring its streaming service to other TV makers.

The Samsung logo is displayed at the Samsung office on August 25, 2017 in Seoul, South Korea. Prosecutors are seeking a 12-year jail sentence. Lee, de facto chief of South Korean conglomerate, faces five charges connecting the bribery scandal involving ousted former President Park Geun-hye and her confidant Choi Soon-sil.

After all, the app is built-in to most Samsung smart TVs these days. When customers buy one, the TV Plus service typically comes pre-installed, bringing various content right off the bat. The live and on-demand channels include various genres, ranging from intense sports action to laid-back lifestyle programming.

The service is currently available for free to most Samsung smart TV owners. Users could watch shows from networks like Fox and NBC. However, the channels may vary depending on the region.

Soon enough, it might not take long before Samsung TV Plus starts appearing on other non-Samsung smart TVs.
