Microsoft and OpenAI announced its extended partnership that centers on a multi-billion dollar investment to the famous artificial intelligence company, to continue its work and focus on new ventures. In particular, the companies said that it would soon be working on "supercomputing at scale," one that would help further OpenAI's research. 

For several years now, Microsoft has been funding OpenAI, from 2019, 2021, and the present, with the companies extending their partnerships and investments at two-year increments.

According to a press release by OpenAI, Microsoft and the company has extended its partnership again this 2023, and it also centers on a "multi-billion dollar investment" that both companies did not reveal. The AI company claimed that this investment will allow them "to continue our independent research and develop AI that is increasingly safe, useful, and powerful." 

The partnership centers on a mutually beneficial setup, as OpenAI claimed that it helped create multiple supercomputers powered by Microsoft Azure. It is what the AI company uses to train its models and creations. 

Microsoft said in its statement that it will center on "supercomputing at scale," to help "OpenAI's groundbreaking independent AI research."

"In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications." said Microsoft Chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella.

How Much Did Microsoft Invest?

The company did not divulge how much Microsoft invested in OpenAI, but previous reports claim that it is around $10 billion, mostly centering on creating Office Software. 

The extended partnership of Microsoft with OpenAI will make more of the AI technology accessible to the public, with Azure also in charge of making it available via its platform.

OpenAI's Artificial Intelligence

The famous startup company from Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Reid Hoffman, Jessica Livingston, and more from 2015 have gained massive fame in their services available to the world. One of its earliest ventures was the DALL-E, an AI art generator that creates artwork from scratch and text commands, also famous for its contributions to NFTs.

OpenAI's system also helps in creating stock photos for specific needs, and it is available through Shutterstock's website for all subscribers of the platform. 

Also, its most controversial technology available now is ChatGPT, an online service from the company which can create content, essays, scripts, and other text-based material that center on its AI's creation. 

OpenAI gained massive fame from the release of its different technology which is available for the public to use, centering on different online content generated by its artificial intelligence to do the bidding. Microsoft has a long-standing partnership with OpenAI, and it shows that it wants to continue this relationship, investing in the company to expand more of its services and features.
