Sony is reportedly planning to present the upgraded the PlayStation 5 Pro model in the spring of 2023 to keep the PlayStation 5 family competitive for years to come. Developers have reportedly already gotten their hands on a new console version. 

Sony Wants to Avoid 'Overshadowing' the Normal PlayStation 5

Citing the Phonandroid, who has their own sources on the matter, the console is looking to be branded with Pro and not Slim as previously rumored. An improved AMD processor and a liquid cooling system were hinted at for the new version of the console. 

According to the story by the Giz China, it is worth noting that Sony wants to avoid "overshadowing" the vanilla PlayStation 5, so it is likely that the two will co-exist in the consumer market for some time.

PlayStation 5 Pro Could be a More Reliable and Efficient Alternative to the Vanilla Console

Set to boast a more powerful chip and an improved cooling system; the PlayStation 5 Pro will provide a reliable and efficient alternative to the vanilla the PlayStation 5. As claimed by sources familiar with the matter, the new model won't be using the "Slim" naming, as it has been previously rumored. 

It appears that the company's ambitious plans for the Pro model, as the cooling system is said to be the same as the one used in gaming PCs. Thus, we can presume that the console will feature an upgraded AMD processor alongside a more reliable cooling system. 

Industry Insider Doesn't Believe the Buzz Around the PS5 Pro to be True

In an attempt to help the original PS5 version reach its planned lifetime length, Sony plans to keep the two consoles in the market simultaneously, similar to the relationship between the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro. 

Nonetheless, industry insider Tom Henderson doesn't believe all the buzz around the PS5 Pro to be true, as, according to him, the fresh rumors are talking about the second-gen PS5, which is expected to hit the market by the Fall of 2023 with a detachable optical drive.

PlayStation 5 Originally Released in Late 2020

Due to the current chip and component shortage, the industry veteran believes that the Pro model won't make much sense anymore, with Sony hoping to reduce the number of the PS5 models to lower costs. 

Furthermore, Henderson claims that he's heard more news about the PlayStation 6 than the PlayStation 5 Pro, pointing out that Sony's ambitions for the latter version remain to be seen.

Overall, the PlayStation 5 Pro is a much-awaited model, eagerly anticipated by gamers since its original release in late 2020. Sony is yet to make an official announcement about the upcoming console, so gamers will have to wait and see what the company has in store for them.
