AMD Confirms Radeon RX GPUs Lag in Performance: RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT Disappoints

Check out the new AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT disappoints.

With the release of the latest AMD Radeon RX GPUs, fans have been in an uproar over the lack of bang for their buck. AMD has tried to make the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT cards more appealing in its blog post, but the numbers just don't add up.

Two AMD RDNA3 Models Show Lack in Performance

According to the story by Giz China, a chart posted on the blog showed that the GPUs offer less than half the frames per dollar compared to AMD's best-value GPU of the previous generation, raising questions about whether these cards are worth the investment.

On the face of it, there is no denying that the two RDNA 3 models, RX 79000 XTX and XT, are new high-end boards from AMD. But it's important to remember that the best value is not found in the high-end models of a GPU range.

AMD Charts Reveal that the Radeon RX 6700 XT Offers the Best Value for Frames Per Dollar

AMD's own chart showed that the Radeon RX 6700 XT offers the best value, with 0.655 frames per dollar. An independent third-party test confirmed this claim. However, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX had a lower value of 0.373 frames per dollar, while the TX 7900 XT delivered 0.395 frames per dollar.

And supposedly, the best-performing card from the previous generation, the Radeon RX 6950 XT, scored 0.484 frames per dollar. Again, despite its high original MSRP price of $1099 at launch, the frames per dollar are still worse than the two RDNA 3 cards.

NVIDIA RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 Offers Lower Framers Per Dollar

This raises the fundamental question of whether it is worth investing in these new cards, considering that their pricing goes against the trend of tech progress. Even the pricey RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 from Nvidia offer lower frames/dollar numbers than either of the latest AMD Radeon RX GPUs, as explained further in an article by PC Gamer.

So, the current high-end GPUs are not worth the money. Therefore, if you want the most bang for your buck, it is better to ignore the current high-end GPUs and get either the best performers of the last-gen or a mid-tier current-gen card.

Charts Show the RX 6700 XT Offers the Best Performance

The best-performing card in AMD's charts was their RX 6700 XT, offering the best performance for the least amount of money. However, even this card falls short in terms of value when compared to the mid-tier current-gen cards, such as the RTX 4070 Ti.

This shows that the best value cannot be found in the high-end models of the current GPU ranges. So, if gamers are in the market for a new GPU, they may want to at least consider the mid-tier models of the last generation instead of the new AMD Radeon RX GPUs.
