WhatsApp edit message feature is reportedly still in development after showing up on its Android beta app last year.

This time around, the Meta-owned messaging service expands its testing to Apple iPhone users in its latest iOS beta app update.

Although other messaging platforms like Telegram already let users edit their messages, WhatsApp has yet to offer such an option to its stable version. Despite that, it looks like the Facebook parent, Meta, continues to gear up for its much-awaited rollout.

WhatsApp Edit Message Feature is Still in the Works

As per a news story by 9to5 Mac, WhatsApp started working on a feature that allows its users to edit their messages after sending them last year or in 2022. The messaging service introduced it on its Android beta app.

However, since then, the Meta-owned platform has kept mum on its development. With that, some observers speculated that the feature might have been shelved.

But this time, a new WhatsApp for iPhone beta update confirms that the tech juggernaut is still working to dish out an edit option that allows its users to revise the messages that they have sent. It sure is a handy feature for its users.

In fact, Apple recently brought an edit option for iMessage, allowing iPhone users to fix any typos or errors after sending a text message.

On top of that, the privacy-focused messaging app, Telegram, has had an edit message feature for quite some time now.

On the other hand, WhatsApp has yet to release such a similar feature. But for now, its beta testing of the edit message feature shows us how the Mark Zuckerberg-owned messaging plans to go about it.

Now Available on WhatsApp iOS Beta for iPhones

According to WABetaInfo, which follows the latest updates on WhatsApp, the new beta version of the messaging app for iPhone users now allows them to edit their messages.

However, it should be noted that not all beta testers could get their hands on it as the edit text messages feature is still under development. But it should start widely rolling out soon.

9to5 Google notes in its report that the new feature for the iPhone beta app works a lot like how it does for Android users.

The beta update brings an "Edit" option, which allows users to tweak their sent messages for a limited time.

How to Edit Messages on WhatsApp

To edit a text message on WhatsApp, users have to tap a message and select the "Edit" option.

However, the edit button would only be available 15 minutes after the message has been sent.

Once a message has been edited, it will gain an "edited" label. However, the feature does not provide any history of the edited message.
