Apple's iPhone 16 Pro is reportedly adopting a more seamless under-display Face ID technology.

And now, a new report corroborates previous predictions, adding that the renowned phone maker is still on track with making the design revamp a reality.

But despite that, the under-screen selfie camera might take a while before arriving on iPhones.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro's Under-Display Face ID

Mac Rumors reports that display consultant, Ross Young, previously predicted that Apple is set to put its Face ID technology under the screen of its iPhone 16 Pro models. It should give the high-end flagship device a cleaner look, potentially a punch-hole design - much like what we see on Android phones these days.

According to Forbes, Apple introduced the Face ID technology in 2017 when it debuted the iPhone X. It allows phone users to glance at their phones to unlock their mobile devices rather than having to enter a password. It sure is pretty convenient.

However, the Face ID sensors have become obtrusive to the design of the phone through the years. But that might change after the iPhone 15 lineup, as the all-new iPhone 16 Pro models see the light of day.

While Young disclosed such plans last January, a news story from the South Korea-based news outlet, The Elec, corroborates the earlier predictions. The Korean media outfit claims Apple is on track with its under-display Face ID technology.

Under-Display Face ID Development Still on Track

The Elec further reports that the Cupertino-based firm is unlikely to face any roadblocks in its attempt to hide its Face ID technology beneath the display of its future iPhones. It comes as the technology for it resembles the current process of smartphone production these days.

Steve Jobs, chief executive officer of Apple Inc., shows off the company's new advertisement after introducing the iPhone 3G and 2.0 software update during the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, CA, Monday, June 9, 2008.

For instance, the Korean news website notes that the under-screen Face ID follows a similar process as the under-display selfie cameras on the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 and the Galaxy Fold 4.

And as such, Apple would not have a hard time securing the technology that would make its under-display Face ID possible for its future iPhones.

The report predicts that "if the current trend continues, Apple can apply Underpanel Face ID to the [non-Pro] iPhone series lineup in 2025." With that, the non-Pro iPhone 17 might start getting a design to revamp as well.

No Under-Display Selfie Camera for iPhone 16?

While the under-screen Face ID looks to be on track to arrive in the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro lineup, the same could not be said for the under-display selfie camera found on current Galaxy foldable phones.

The Elec suggests that the under-display front-facing snapper is likely coming to iPhones by 2026, perhaps as the iPhone 18 series debuts.
