It appears Facebook is currently down, as users trying to access Facebook pages are unable to reach the site. In addition, independent testing sites are confirming the outage.

As we enter the wee hours of Jan. 27, it seems that the Facebook website is unavailable due to a site wide crash. This is confirmed by the website status checker tool, which allows users to enter the name of the website they are trying to reach and determines if the site is down for everyone or if the situation is localized or unique to the user. The results summary from the site is as follows: "Unfortunately we did not receive a 200 OK HTTP status code as a response. This means that the website is currently unavailable and down for everybody (not just you)"

There is currently no information available as to the cause of the outage, or whether it is attributable to the blizzard which is currently blanketing the Northeast, nor is it clear when Facebook will return. One thing is certain, Facebook users are missing their social media, as they are checking the websitedown.info site at the rate of three inquiries per second.
