Nintendo Switch receives its new system update with the firmware version number 16.0.1, following the recent update last February.

Nintendo Switch Firmware System Update 16.0.1

As per a recent report by Nintendo Life, the latest firmware update, which turns out to be the second release for 2023, is now rolling out.

Last February, the Japanese gaming giant surprised Switch users with an update, bumping the firmware version from 15 to 16.

This time, the first-ever follow-up of version 16 has finally arrived. The latest update appears to be a pretty minor release compared to the February update. But nevertheless, it is still a necessary update as it offers stability improvements.

Switch System Update 16.0.1 Full Patch Notes

The official Nintendo support page was quick to publish the patch notes for the version 16.0.1 Switch system update. It gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the latest software release.

The official patch notes say that the new update brings "general system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience."

Essentially, the firmware version 16.0.1 is more of a stability update, which refines the overall user experience, preventing unnecessary hiccups while browsing games. Nintendo typically releases this type of update from time to time, besides counterparts that bring new features.

But it turns out that Nintendo also included a few minor changes in the new firmware update. Nintendo Life reports that a data miner, who goes by the name Oatmeal Dome, reveals other changes in the latest software release.

Oatmeal Dome says that there are a few changes beyond the stability improvements. One of which includes the rearrangement of the bad words list. It should help "reduce erroneous blocking," according to the data miner. On top of that, Nintendo reportedly added and removed some words.

Despite that additional information, the new system software version remains to be a minor update. Yet, users might still find this a welcome release as it helps improve the overall stability of their Switch. After all, who does not want a smooth experience?

How to Update Switch System

Switch system updates should automatically update the latest firmware version when the gaming device is connected to the internet, according to Nintendo.

However, some users might want to download and install it manually to get their hands on it immediately. So here is how to do so.

  • Open the "System Settings" menu.
  • Then, select the "System" option."
  • After which, click "System Update" to download and install the latest system software update.
