Tesla Gigafactory Texas reportedly achieved a new milestone. It now produces roughly 4,000 electric vehicles (EVs) each week, significantly ramping up its previous production rate.

But despite the growing EV production of Giga Texas, the Gigafactory in Berlin still manufactures more vehicles. It is worth noting that the Elon Musk-led automaker is working to ramp up the production of both facilities.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - JANUARY 03: A Tesla dealership is seen on January 03, 2023 in Austin, Texas. Tesla's quarterly earnings fell short of Wall Street's expectations and its 2022 delivery target, losing approximately $675 billion in market valuation.

Tesla Gigafactory Texas New Production Milestone

As per a recent report by Electrek, the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas previously only produces around 3,000 Model Y EVs once a week, as of December 2022.

But this time, it looks like Tesla has successfully ramped up the production in the Texas facility. From an average of 3,000 per week, it now boasts around 4,000 EVs in a mere week.

The giant EV maker took to Twitter to announce the big news from the Giga Texas, congratulating the team in the facility for producing a cool 4,000 Model Y EVs. The tweet included a video showing the folks at the Austin-based factory celebrating the massive milestone.

Electrek notes in its report that the Musk-led automaker typically targets around 5,000 per week for its production ramp-up. So in other words, the latest Giga Texas milestone is a thousand vehicles away from this.

How About Giga Berlin?

On the other hand, the Gigafactory Berlin has already hit the 5,000-a-week EV output goal as early as last month. The factory in Germany has already achieved the goal of producing a staggering 5,000 Model Y EVs in just a week.

GRUENHEIDE, GERMANY - MARCH 22: Tesla CEO Elon Musk speaks during the official opening of the new Tesla electric car manufacturing plant on March 22, 2022 near Gruenheide, Germany.

Tesla disclosed the Giga Berlin production milestone last March 26 on Twitter. The tweet reveals that the facility in Germany is built 5,000 EVs, "[one] year after delivering the first vehicles to customers."

With that, the Austin-based Giga Texas is still lagging behind the production figures of its counterpart in Germany. The former needs to ramp up its production by about 1,000 EVs more a week to keep up with the latter.

Texas Gigafactory Expansion

Electrek notes that the Texas facility is grappling with problems that do not bother the Giga Berlin. The Austin-based factory produces EVs with 4680 battery cells, wherein Tesla is having trouble with ramping up production.

So with that, the latest milestone of Giga Texas is still noteworthy on its own.

As per a news story by The Verge, a registration filing from Tesla disclosed that the EV maker is working on expanding the Texas Gigafactory. The expansion costs to the tune of $770 million, which should pave the way to the production of the long-awaited Cybertruck all-electric pick up truck.
