Spotify Apple AirPlay 2 support is still in the works, the Swedish-based music streaming service reportedly confirmed.

Besides support for Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify users have long been clamoring for the streaming platform to start supporting the smart speakers of the iPhone maker, namely the HomePod and the HomePod mini.

The company logo of Swedish music streaming giant spotify is pictured on a smartphone in Berlin on January 23, 2023. - Swedish music streaming giant Spotify said on January 23, 2023 that it was cutting six percent of its roughly 10,000 employees, the latest among a slew of cost-cutting announcements by technology companies.

Spotify Apple AirPlay 2 Support

As per a report by The Verge, Spotify has confirmed as early as August 2021 that it is looking to bring AirPlay 2 support to its iOS app. But until now, it is still nowhere to be found.

When Spotify announced its plans to support AirPlay 2, it admitted that it is facing some delays. The giant streamer blamed some "audio driver compatibility issues" back then. With that, Apple fans expected that it might take a while before it sees the light of day.

In 2021, Spotify assured that it "will support AirPlay2 and we're working to make that a reality."

However, several months have gone by and its iOS app has yet to offer support for AirPlay 2, which should allow users to cast their music to speakers, televisions, and other devices. With that, some folks were worried that Spotify might have abandoned its plans to pursue it.

Spotify is Still Working on AirPlay 2 Support

But it turns out that despite that long delay, Spotify is still at it. The Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, spoke about it in his latest Power On newsletter.

According to Mac Rumors, Gurman says that Spotify has confirmed to him that it is still working hard to make the AirPlay 2 support a reality soon.

The Swedish firm says that it "remains committed to supporting AirPlay 2 at some point in the future." The streaming service failed to mention a specific timeline for its arrival. With that said, it might take a while until it finally starts rolling out.

But despite the lack of a release date for the AirPlay 2 support, Spotify assures that it is already "on a path towards making it happen eventually." It is a piece of good news for Apple and Spotify users.

However, it seems that Spotify subscribers will still have to patiently wait for its arrival. At least, the streamer has now confirmed that it continues to work on it rather than scrapping it.

Yet, despite the growing clamor from Apple fans, the Swedish streamer, which rivals Apple Music, has to bring support for these smart speakers.
