NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured an awe-inspiring image of a spiral galaxy brimming with an incredible one trillion stars!

The Hubble telescope's new image depicts the spiral galaxy UGC 2885, a staggering 800,000 light-years across, making it roughly ten times larger than our Milky Way galaxy.

Located about 232 million light-years away, UGC 2885 is so enormous that it is hard to comprehend its size.

The bright, spiky stars in this Hubble Space Telescope image are far within our Milky Way galaxy and in the foreground toward the valiant northern constellation Perseus. UGC 2885, a massive spiral galaxy located 232 million light-years away, is clearly seen beyond. It has about 1 trillion stars and is about 800,000 light-years across, as opposed to the Milky Way's 100,000 light-year diameter. That is roughly ten times the number of stars in the Milky Way. UGC 2885 was also a component of An Interesting Journey, an investigation on spiral galaxy rotation led by astronomer Vera Rubin.

Bright Spiky Stars

The bright, spiky stars visible in the foreground of the image are located within our own Milky Way galaxy, while UGC 2885 is in the background and the heroic northern constellation of Perseus.
