The up-and-coming app from Instagram creators, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, Artifact, is now available under a beta testing experience for those granted a pass on the waitlist. However, as more users join and its features slowly unfold, different reports have regarded the app to look like a familiar experience on the internet, with Reddit. 

For many years, Reddit has been a platform that centers on a social news aggregator experience with discussions and forum that delivers significant features for users.

Engadget reports that Artifact shows off its several new features, including user profiles, reputation scores, comments with upvotes and downvotes, and read notifications from people in your contacts. These features are designed to make the app more engaging and to encourage users to share and discuss news stories with one another.

The addition of user profiles allows users to create a public identity within the app, which includes a photo, bio, and reputation score based on their activity within the app.

The reputation score is based on how other users interact with a user's content, including their comments and the articles they share. Users can upvote or downvote comments, similar to Reddit, which can impact a user's reputation score.

In addition to the social features, the app now includes read notifications, which allow users to see when their contacts have read an article that they have shared.

Still in the beta testing phase, Artifact's initial rollout has some users raising their eyebrows as it looks similar to Reddit, with several features highly resembling the experience.

Artifact is a new contended and the app's AI technology will continue to be at the core of the app, delivering personalized news stories to users based on their interests and preferences.
