Tesla decided to bring its trip planner to its own mobile application. This has been requested by Tesla owners for a long time now as the automaker always had a good system when it comes to planning a trip despite being only available inside its vehicles.

BERLIN, GERMANY - OCTOBER 29: The driver of an electric Tesla car looks to the mobile phone to unlock the public charging station on October 29, 2021 in Berlin, Germany. Berlin, along with most of Germany's large cities, is seeking to vigorously expand its number of public electric car charging stations both to meet growing demand and to meet environmental goals.

Launching Trip Planner to Mobile

Trip planning and accurate range prediction are both useful to avoid and remove curb range anxiety in your systems. But despite Tesla having a good system for trip planning, it was only available inside its vehicles.

But the company officially rolled out Trip Planning on mobile in a new update pushed today. Electrek reported that the release notes of the update called 4.20.69 feature a Phone Key pairing that no longer requires your key card to complete, and Schedule Service for Tesla Insurance claims for customers in the United States.

The Trip Planner mobile launch was not mentioned in the release notes, despite being the most heavily requested feature by its owners for a long time now. This will make planning a road trip before leaving your destination easier than ever before.

Trip Planner's Features

In the mobile app, owners have the ability to type in their destination which will provide the route and Superchargers needed to complete the journey. A 'Send to Car' button is now available when using a feature to transmit the route, along with the Supercharger stops and travel time to the vehicle.

However, Teslarati reported that the Trip Planner only allows users to set a single destination. The current version is still void of the Waypoints feature, which many of its owners fought for through in-car navigation.

Launching this feature allows for plenty of convenience and new abilities to be prepared and studied before a trip is taken. As per previous reports, the launch of this feature to the mobile app is already expected and had in some markets. Unfortunately, it only made its way only to the United States.

Experiencing Tesla App Down

Last February, the Tesla app started crashing out of nowhere across European countries, which leave drivers and electric vehicle owners worried that they might end up being locked out of their cars. The app showed an error message, preventing them from using its services including opening doors and basic controls.

Affected owners reported right away the downtime and outrage on social media, including Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk-owned platform Twitter. As per the affected drivers and owners, the app outage lasted for roughly six hours. LAD Bible reported that drivers were only able to unlock their doors by relying on the Bluetooth connectivity of their smartphones.

Besides the unlocking feature, other essential options were inaccessible, including the Powerwall battery system. They were not able to check if they need to top up the battery of their EV using their smartphones through the app.
