Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, recently shared images on Facebook of himself competing in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) event, in which he was shown locking opponents on the ground and was declared the victor in the following photos.

The announcement was made on Zuckerberg's Facebook page on Sunday, May 8, but the tournament's venue and date remain unknown. According to a Straits Times report, Zuckerberg won gold and silver medals in the sports competition.

The CEO's New Interest in Martial Arts

According to Jits Magazine, Zuckerberg fought in both gi and no gi jiu-jitsu in the white belt master two lightweight division. The gi is a thick, white cotton uniform used in several martial arts, including BJJ.

Mark Zuckerberg has recently revealed his passion for sports, including mixed martial arts (MMA), during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Straits Times notes that he took this interest to the next level by training at the Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu gym in San Jose, California. In fact, he even represented the gym in a tournament.

In an action-packed video posted on his Instagram page on September 2022, Zuckerberg can be seen training with Khai Wu, a professional mixed martial artist.

The footage showcases both men exchanging punches and executing grappling moves, demonstrating Zuckerberg's dedication to the sport.

Interestingly, the Straits Times also reported that the Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu Academy had observed an increase in tech workers, like Zuckerberg, interested in learning how to fight.

Mr. Wu, a trainer at the gym, playfully refers to these individuals as "jiu-jitsu nerds." He believes these enthusiasts may not initially seem intimidating, but they can hold their own once they step onto the mat.

It is interesting to note, however, that the CEO has also decided to increase the budget for this personal security this year by up to $14 million. It is unclear whether this concerns Zuckerberg's new passion for martial arts.

From Fighter to Surfer

Mark Zuckerberg is not only a tech whiz and a martial arts fan, but he also turns out to be a surfing enthusiast, as the New York Post reported.

Despite his busy schedule, he makes time every morning to hit the waves and indulge in his love for surfing before delving into the complexities of running Facebook, Instagram, and more of his tech conglomerate.

As the head of a tech giant, Zuckerberg is no stranger to the punches of bad news that come with the job, and he has mentioned to the press that he finds solace in the serenity of the ocean while he surfs his stress away.

His hobbies may seem like a diversion from his responsibilities, but they serve as a vital means for him to disconnect from work and recharge his batteries.

It is not uncommon for high-profile individuals to have outlets that allow them to cope with the demands of their work, and for Zuckerberg, it seems that surfing and martial arts are just the tickets.
