His decision surprised many individuals because the one he hired was Linda Yaccarino, the former ex-NBCUniversal ad chief.

In 2022, the billionaire posted a Twitter poll to ask users if he should resign as Twitter's CEO. The final result of the poll was 57.5% yes and 42.5% no. Although it took months, Elon Musk kept his promise.

According to CNBC's latest report, Yaccarino resigned from her position as NBCUniversal ad chief on Friday, May 12.

Elon Musk confirmed the arrival of the new Twitter CEO via his official tweet. "I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!" said the billionaire.

He added that Linda will focus on managing business operations. Aside from this, she will also handle social media's new technologies and product designs.

"Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app," added Musk.

His surprising Twitter announcement was able to generate over 14 million views, 100,000 likes, and 14,000 retweets.

What will Elon Musk do now? 

Technically, since Elon Musk still owns Twitter, his final decisions are still the ones that the social media giant will follow. 

Before he named the new Twitter CEO, Musk said that he planned to transition as the platform's chief technology officer and executive chairman.
