Meta's Twitter Version, a Short-Word Text-Based App from Instagram

In the newsletter called "ICYMI by Lia Haberman," a new report claims to have obtained an internal slide from Meta which presented the latest Twitter-rival app in the form and feels of Instagram. Yes, this is the first look at the famed Meta version of Twitter, centering on a text-based app that will give users a chance to express themselves and share with their followers.

The report centered on showcasing the design and function of the app, and it is similar to Twitter but will be under Meta and Instagram's management for the public to use, initially codenamed P92, Project 92, or Barcelona.

Moreover, it aims to feature what Chief Tweet wants for Twitter, and it is to become decentralized, with the Instagram app building it for "creators and public figures."

Additionally, it can sign in using your Instagram profile, sync followers when migrating to the new app, and would allow cross-searching from Instagram's main app to the text-based app.

The Design is Very Instagram, Also Similar to Twitter

According to The Verge, this new app is looking similar to Instagram, and at the same time, Twitter, as an alternative to the short-word social media platform.

As added by Haberman, the app may soon be available by June and would allow users to post as much as 500 characters per post for the new text-based app of the media-sharing platform.

Twitter Alternatives and Meta

During the early days of the Twitter turnover to Elon Musk, many have already boycotted the app, but when the news of paid verifications sparked, more looked into alternatives where they would have the same experience. One of the apps which came to mind was Mastodon, the famed short-word social media platform which most users went to.

However, there are still those who went with the usual social media names in the industry, with Instagram being a top choice for people to express themselves. And with that, Meta created a Twitter-like feature for the media-sharing platform, and this is called Instagram Notes-allowing the public to post short blurbs or something they want to convey which they can share with followers.

Meta did not stop there, as news regarding a dedicated app is under development, and it will center on a new platform that will bring short-word social media in a new fashion. With Twitter under massive fire since Musk's takeover last October, Meta is looking to enter the text-based market with an app of their own, with leaks now showing the first look at it.
