Computers' performance has something to do with their hardware. Intel understands this, and the company is now working to make its CPUs more efficient.

Intel Is Working to Make Its CPUs Run More Efficiently

According to The Verge, Intel is looking for a new way to create chip nodes that would make for more efficient processors and beat competitors with its backside power delivery process. It comes after the company's years of struggling to make good on its chipmaking promises.

Intel will be publishing two papers at the 2023 VLSI Symposium next week, which are expected to give details about its new technology in building chip nodes.

Papers to Reveal the Intel PowerVia System, Which Would Improve System Flow

The papers will reportedly reveal Intel's backside power technology called PowerVia, which would be a big deal as the industry moves towards smaller processor nodes. The PowerVia would help make smaller chips more efficient and less power-hungry as part of the company's 2021 road map. This new technology would power all rails back to the chip.

It would bring power directly back to the components that need it instead of the complicated routing, which was described as an "increasingly chaotic web." That means that buyers will get better efficiency through power being appropriately routed.

VLSI Revealed Heatmap Images Showing How the Chip Functions

The company said it was already able to test out this technology through the Blue Sky Creek chip, which is based on a more efficient core that Intel would be placed in its upcoming Meteor Lake PC processor.

According to reports, the new method would help not only with better power delivery but also with improved signal wiring. The official VLSI Twitter account revealed pictures from Intel's papers showing how the technology would supposedly work.

The pictures showed thermal imaging, revealing how the power would be delivered and how the PowerVia technology would be implemented. For an average computer user, this means more efficient speed and getting the work done quicker with less power. However, this latest technology will reportedly not be available for users immediately.

PowerVia Solution of Intel Is Expected to be Available by 2024

The company expects that the PowerVia solution will only be ready by 2024 when it will be added to manufacturing. With its road map, this could provide Intel with serious advantages against AMD and TSMC, which still run more powerful and efficient processors as of press time.

Should Intel integrate PowerVia into its chips, it could give the company significant benefits over its rivals regarding the CPU front. An AnandTech article noted that it would put Intel at least two years ahead of its competitors when it comes to actually producing chips with this new technique. So far, the company is still in a tight battle with AMD and TSMC.
