The new Apple iOS 17 update reportedly added a pet recognition feature, which allows the Photos app to recognize pets in addition to people. It would benefit pet owners, as the device separates the collection of the pets' images in the new "People and Pets" album.

Apple iOS 17 Update Comes With New Feature Designed for Pet Owners

According to Mac Rumors, the new Apple iOS 17 update reportedly made the "People" album to the new "People and Pets" album. The latest app update now identifies the owner's pets from the many photos in the album. After being identified as animals, the pets are then included in a "People and Pets" album.

The Feature Doesn't Activate Right Away Without Sufficient Pet Photos

Users can see their beloved animals under a separate album in the Photos app, where they can view them if they have multiple images of the same pets. Users must take more than two photos of their pets to show up in this section.

Once owners take multiple images of the same animal, they will see the pet listed in the album. Users can now see a compilation of their pets' pictures, allowing them to view specific pet memories in the "For You" section.

New Feature Detects Animals With Different Colors and Can Tell Them Apart

Mac Rumors reported that the pet recognition feature was accurate and could recognize animals that have the same coloration. The new feature could detect animals of different colors. It could distinguish between two white cats, two orange cats, and two tabby cats without issues or mistakes.

Once recognized, owners can see their pets separately in a section that appears more accurate now. Pets are now designated by more accurate icons with the Look Up feature, and the app will try to determine a specific species better for the animals taken a picture of.

Owners Can Use the Visual Look Up Feature to Search for More Info Regarding the Images

With the new Apple iOS 17 update, users can also look for recipes when they use the feature on food items in the Photos app. Aside from that, users can also look for information regarding the photo subject when they remove it from the background.

The Visual Look Up feature now also works in videos. So far, the Photos app changes are available in the iOS 17 beta, and the company plans to release it officially to users next month. According to Tech Crunch, Apple did not mention many of the new iOS features during Monday's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) due to lack of time.

However, it was reported that a Freeform update would introduce new drawing tools like a calligraphy pen, highlighter, variable-width pen, watercolor brush, and ruler. The Apple iOS 17 will also include a nudity filter for naked photos and videos showing private body parts, usually covered by underwear or bathing suits, to prevent viewing unsolicited nudes.
