Google Lens, one of Google's most promising augmented reality (AR) services, has expanded its capabilities with a new feature that allows users to search for and identify skin conditions, we learn in a recent blog post

Google Lens Introduces Skin Condition Recognition

This ability aims to provide users with a visual tool to assist in understanding various skin issues they may encounter.

In addition to skin conditions, the feature can identify other physical concerns, such as a bump on the lip, a line on the nails, or even hair loss.

Users can simply take a picture or upload a photo through Lens to utilize this feature. The system will then generate visual matches that are visually similar to the issue being examined.

Google emphasizes that these search results are purely informational and not intended to replace professional medical advice.

It is recommended to consult a medical authority for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate guidance. This new feature aims to overcome the challenge of accurately describing skin abnormalities, which can often be difficult to convey through words alone.

Similar Features from Google

Google has introduced a new feature to assist with skin diseases, and it is not the first time they have done so.

The company has a tool called DermAssist, which is classified as a Class 1 Medical Device and has been given the CE mark. With just a few photos, it can detect medical diseases.

Currently, they are conducting additional market testing by making it available to a limited number of users. Google has been developing similar features since 2021.

The addition of skin condition recognition is just one of the many recent generative AI features introduced by Google. Beyond skin condition recognition, Lens offers various practical applications to cater to users' needs.
