YouTube is known for constantly innovating and coming up with new features every so often. Now, one of its newest features specifically for YouTube premium subscribers was spotted for Android and Google TV users.

New YouTube 1080p Premium Tier Revealed to be Tested Out for Android and Google TV Users

According to the story by 9to5Google, the new feature was called the 1080p tier, which is set to offer a better bitrate. It is reportedly being tested out by Android and Google TV users after previously being spotted back in February.

In February, the 1080p Premium tier was spotted as an exclusive and would reportedly only be accessible by YouTube Premium subscribers. During this time, the particular tier was found to be exclusive only to the iPhone and Apple TV.

This left out Android users, but in April, Google finally made an official announcement, as also highlighted by Mac Rumors, where it detailed the feature and explained how 1080p content was delivered at higher bitrates. It did acknowledge that the feature was first exclusive to Apple devices.

Android TV OS App for YouTube Shows 1080p Premium Tier

It was also announced during that time that the feature would then be coming to Android later on. Now, the feature is finally accessible for Android users as well as Google seems to be further testing out its support.

The Android TV OS app for YouTube shows that users would be able to use the 1080p Premium tier. This was reportedly what was found by a certain Reddit user who shared their findings on how the tier worked on both Google TV and Android TV devices.

It was noted that the feature worked along the standard 1080p option with an explanation of how the feature reportedly brought what was described as "enhanced bitrate." It was noted that switching to the tier would then prompt users to upgrade to a YouTube Premium subscription if they had not yet done this.

The New Tier was Also Spotted as Available on a Motorola Smartphone Through the Android App

Aside from that, it was also noted that a certain Twitter user also saw the 1080p Premium feature show up on their Motorola smartphone. It was noted that the tier was spotted through the official Android app.

It was noted that the new 1080p tier would lock the quality behind the paywall. However, the truth was that the existing free quality and the paid quality tier would be very different.

The Free 1080p Quality Option is Still Available for Users

It was noted that the tier was entirely new and very different from the existing quality. The new tier was also exclusive for YouTube Premium members, while the previous 1080p feature was still free for everyone else.

It was also noted that YouTube has been spreading the rollout of its 1080p Premium tier over the past days, especially for iOS users and also web users. Now, it seems like more Android users are also getting the new feature.
