There is good news and bad news: the good news is that there is an upcoming Super Mario RPG remake coming for the Nintendo Switch sometime this November to bring back the ultra-popular game. However, the bad news is that it seems like its original director is not coming back to join the team and help create the game for Nintendo.

Super Mario RPG is one of the most popular games of the franchise which was first released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and also remade for other consoles.

Chihiro Fujioka is best known for his work on Super Mario RPG which was first released in 1996, and he has expressed his excitement in Nintendo's tweet last week which announced the game.

However, when he was asked if he will take part in its development, the renowned director said that he is not involved in this specific version's remake.

It was previously known that Fujioka expressed his interest in directing a "true sequel" of the Super Mario RPG, one that would center only on Mario for gamers to control. If given the chance, Fujioka claimed that he would grab the opportunity and make it the final game of his career.

However, there seem to be no plans for a sequel of the game, as Nintendo focused its efforts on its remake as it has done before.

Nintendo Japan has already announced and confirmed the upcoming remake of Super Mario RPG set for this year and would be available, particularly by November 11. It remains one of the most famous Mario games in the world and centered on characters like Mario and Bowser which presented a new RPG experience when it first arrived.

The Mario Franchise on Nintendo Switch

Mario is still one of the largest franchises and titles on the Nintendo ecosystem, with modern titles including Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario World 3D, and more. However, with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the old games are making a comeback, coming from different platforms available.

Iconic games from the earlier days have made their way back to Nintendo's current gaming console, the Switch, including titles from Nintendo 64, particularly with Mario Party, and more.

There are also beloved games from the franchise from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the SNES, all available here.

Despite its retro gaming feature, some titles are so popular, Nintendo picked up on remaking it for the modern gaming console instead of bringing it back via the online service. Super Mario RPG is set to bring back nostalgia in an improved experience, but the only downside to this is that Fujioka would not be a part of its development and would only be a gamer like us.
