Microsoft has decided to re-release its Windows 11 KB5007651 after one of its updates broke the Windows Security interface. The update in question was known as the Windows Defender Security update.

Windows Releases Its Newest Update to Fix the Initial Local Security Authority Protection Problem

According to Windows Latest, another Windows Defender update release turned off the Local Security Authority Protection feature, which would reportedly give users fake alerts.

The fake alerts reportedly tell users that their "Local Security protection is off. Your device may be vulnerable," even when it is enabled and working.

Microsoft has acknowledged the reports. Users can learn more about it on Microsoft Answers.

Windows 11 Users Spotted the Bug, Which Caused Panic Across the Community

It was reported that Microsoft users with Windows 11 installed were able to spot this bug that tells users that their protection was off despite being on and already working after the March 2023 patch.

It was also reported that the alert caused panic, as it made users believe that their electronic devices or gadgets were at risk. The tech community was reportedly in panic due to users getting frequent alerts, which showed the yellow warning triangle icon.

Users Were Told They Should Dismiss the Error and a Simple Restart Would Fix It

After Microsoft acknowledged the reports, the company then told users that they should ignore or dismiss the error. The company also said users could try restarting their devices to fix the Windows Security bug.

Microsoft also gave assurance that everything would work fine after users dismissed the error and rebooted their devices. However, Windows Latest reported that the alerts persisted, and users still get notifications telling them they remained vulnerable.

Microsoft's Initial Fix Brought Additional Problems

After this, Microsoft finally released an additional Windows Defender update, which removed the toggle to handle "Local Security Protection." However, this update reportedly caused new problems, including driver and gaming issues.

After that, Microsoft decided to release another update to fix to remove the toggle, but Windows Security started showing a different error alert.

The Final Fix Brought by the Latest Windows 11 Update

Microsoft then rolled out another update to fix the second warning. The company confirmed that the Microsoft Defender fix causes unwanted side effects.

All the issues were finally resolved in Microsoft Defender's July 2023 update. A new version of KB5007651 (1.0.2306.10002) brings back the Local Security Authority protection toggle to Windows Security and solves the false positive bugs.

According to Microsoft's update to the support document, this "issue was resolved in an update for Windows Security antimalware platform KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2306.10002). If you want to install the update before it is installed automatically, you will need to check for updates."

The bug reportedly affected all versions of Windows 11, including versions 22H2 and 21H2.
