Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone Is Coming to Brazil

Apple announced Thursday that Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available to United Kingdom users. This feature allows the iPhone to function as a payment terminal so merchants can accept contactless payments using their phones.

And now, 9To5Mac reported that it seems the Tap to Pay is also coming to Brazil soon. Several customers of the Brazilian payments platform, InfinitePay, have reportedly received early access to Tap to Pay through the InfinitePay app.

In an email sent to these vendors associated with the platform, it was noted that Tap to Pay on iPhone is currently undergoing testing in Brazil, with a restricted user base, in preparation for its official release.

A vendor who has been granted early access to the feature shared a video of using Tap to Pay on an iPhone. After entering the purchase amount, the Tap to Pay interface will show it in the local currency of Brazil. iPhones utilize NFC technology to accept payments from other devices that support this functionality.

Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone Launched in UK

Tap to Pay on iPhone was first launched in the United States in 2022. Earlier this year, Apple extended it to Taiwan and now to the United Kingdom.

According to Mac Rumors, Revolut and Tyl by NatWest are the first payment platforms to offer this feature to UK customers. Other platforms such as Adyen, Dojo, myPOS, Stripe, SumUp, Viva Wallet, Worldline, and Zettle by PayPal will also offer the Tap to Pay on ‌iPhone ‌soon.

Apple's vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, Jennifer Bailey, said: "Small and medium-sized businesses have long played a vital role in the U.K. economy, and alongside payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks, we're making it easier than ever for U.K. businesses to seamlessly accept contactless payments and continue to grow their business."

Tap to Pay on iPhone works with iPhones and Android phones, as well as debit and credit cards. That means it is possible to witness someone using their Samsung, OnePlus, or Google Pixel phones making contactless payments by tapping them on the merchant's iPhone.

Forbes reported that the system will affect companies like Apple. For instance, you may have seen the staffer holding an iPod or iPhone dressed in a payment sled if you have to pay for something in an Apple Store. Soon, that payment sled will be removed, and the iPhone will be the device that will accept payment.
