Mark Gurman has been known as a long-time prominent Apple leaker and recently, new information has come out regarding the M3 chips and how certain devices might not get them, this year. One of the devices would be the MacBook Pro, which is expected to equip the chips next year.

MacBook Pro and Mac Mini are Two Units that Won't be Getting the M3 Chips in 2023

According to the story by Mac Rumors, the MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini are two units that wouldn't be getting the M3 chips this year. It was noted that among other Macs, these two devices would only be launching with the M3 chips in 2024.

The information was reportedly revealed during the latest Power On newsletter edition, which talks about how Gurman believed that the two devices wouldn't launch this year with the M3. He described it as being a "sure thing" but the article by Mac Rumors clarifies that it wasn't imminent or what they described as "far into development."

The 14-Inch and 16-Inch MacBook Pro Models are Expected to be the First Macs to Launch with the M3 This Year

Gurman reportedly claims that the machine is still not expected to launch until late 2024 at the earliest. It was also noted that the devices wouldn't be the first Macs by Apple that would be packing the company's next expected chip, the M3, and that there could be other Macs that launch before this period that would carry the device.

The Macs that are expected to launch with the M3 chip are the 14-inch and the 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The two devices are expected to launch sometime in October late this year, and not in 2024.

The Apple M2 Mac Mini was Launched Two Years After the M1 Version was Introduced

It was also noted that an even more upgraded version of the chips could also be launched a little later on. This would be as the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models would come with the M3 Pro and the M3 Max chips by the middle of 2024 at the latest.

Gurman also highlighted that the M2 Mac mini can be used as an example for delayed launches of the Mac Mini with the newer Apple chips equipped. This happened as the M2 Mac mini launched two years after the M1 version was introduced.

The Explanation was Apple Most Likely Not Seeing the Mac Mini as a Device Needing Annual Refreshing

The explanation behind this was that it would suggest Apple not see the Mac mini as a device that would need to be refreshed annually. This would contrast with high-end MacBook Pros, which get a refresh cycle every four to five quarters.

According to Apple Insider, it was noted that the upgraded 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro units are also likely to arrive further than expected. This also includes the M3-equipped Mac mini, which might not join the usual lineup.

As for the first device in the lineup, Gurman notes that he thinks it would be the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and the 25-inch iMac.
