Volkswagen's revival of the famed Kombi van from the late 1940s was rebirthed as the ID.BUZZ, but the rumored electric camper van which many people expect to also have a comeback is not coming. Essentially, while these electric vehicles may be essentially the same and come from the same platform, Volkswagen still has no plans to bring an all-electric camper van says a report.

Modernizing and electrifying favorite classic cars have been a massive undertaking in the car industry, but in Volkswagen's case, it stops with the ID.BUZZ for now.

Edison, a German publisher, has reported that Volkswagen is not making an electric camper van version of its modern developments in its lineup. This is despite Volkswagen teasing this specific vehicle in its lineup back in 2019.

This is because the car would be heavier for a standard category B license in Europe to operate such a heavy vehicle, with the said electric camper van already at more than three tons. To adhere to the policies and regulations, Volkswagen is a no-go for the teased electric camper van.

It is still set for the standard ID.BUZZ though, the famed electric van that will arrive by 2024.

Still, there is a promise to the US market for a longer ID.Buzz which also sports third-row seats, coming in later next year.

The ID.BUZZ is a Standalone Car for VW

The ID.BUZZ is set to be a standalone car for Volkswagen now, and this centers on the electrified modern version of its van that has been around for a long time.

According to TechCrunch, there might be a possible hybrid camper based on the VW Multivan coming in the future, still not using the platform of the ID.BUZZ despite being inspired by the Volkswagen Type 2.

Volkswagen's ID.BUZZ

The ID platform for Volkswagen has essentially been its namesake for all electrified car models, with the company debuting many electric cars and concepts for the world to see. Since late 2021, the world has been speculating on a new electric van from Volkswagen, with a camper van in mind to revive the good, old days.

One of the most iconic vans from Volkswagen was the Type 2, also known as the Kombi, and sometimes referred to as the camper van.

Fast forward to March 2022, then VW CEO Herbert Diess and the company have unveiled the ID.BUZZ to the world, centering on the electric revamp of the renowned van.

Volkswagen has a lot to offer with its upcoming electric vehicles, with the ID.BUZZ coming next year for the world to see the latest take on the electrified Microbus of the company. Classics revamp aside, Volkswagen is focusing its attention on this particular vehicle, but not on an electric camper van, one that is equipped with things needed for an outdoor adventure.
